Boone Moschkau

d. December 21, 2020

Faribault

Boone's life started at a rescue in Michigan. It changed dramatically when the Leaderdog Services for the Blind saw potential in him. He was taken and trained to become a service dog. Eighteen months later my dad flew to Michigan to be trained as Boone's human. Getting and caring for Boone gave my dad's life purpose and something to live for. Boone remained my dad's Seeing Eyedog until my dad's death in 2018. I had the honor of caring for Boone for the last two years. It was my goal to teach Boone how to be a dog. He did learn quite a bit but never did understand the whole fetch concept.

Fun facts about Boone:
*When arriving from training in Michigan, dad and Boone practiced stairs at Maplewood Mall because periodically they were taped by the Leaderdog Services to make sure things were going smoothly.
*Boone was always a gentlemen and crossed his front paws when laying down.
*Jumping into the mail lady's truck to search for his own treat was a daily ritual dad and Boone looked forward to.
*He would let Teya, his companion dog, take bones right out of his mouth, with no complaint.
*Warm mud puddles were his favorite place to cool off. Forever my Mud Puppy.
*Getting a bath was not to his liking but he tolerated it well.
*He didn't like to go past his belly into water, but he was a good passenger in a canoe.
*Boone got to sit on dad's lap as he was retiring from his service role, but only if dad had his special Boone blanket on.
*Boone's saggy eyes carried wisdom. He carried a surrendered spirit and just let life go by gratefully.

This was written by Laura Ashton Moschkau with help from all the family that loved dad and Boone.
