Polly Dilley

August 28, 2001 — August 5, 2020

Northfield, MN

Polly was arrived in this world on August 28, 2001.  She and her littermates were born in a barn with race horses. This little girl joined her human mama’s family in October, 2001 at the age of eight weeks.  Polly stole her mama’s heart the first day they met and held onto it for nearly 19 years.

As though environment had an impact, Polly grew up to be long, tall and thin, much like the horses in the barn.  She was cute, sweet, smart, gentle, inquisitive and very entertaining. To get someone’s attention, it was mostly a chirp (EH!?) or maybe a paw on a leg.

Polly was a tiny bit cross eyed, and could wrinkle her brow, so she often looked concerned or confused.  She perfected the facial expressions of curiosity and total innocence.

Her “proper” name was Polly Wolly Doodle all the Day, leading to many nicknames. “Doodle Bug” was used the most.  As a kitten she earned the title of Persistent Polly because she would not take no for an answer.

Polly loved her toys.  A long forgotten favorite was reintroduced to her a few weeks ago.  Mr. Spider did not last long at their reunion.  A wad of black rabbit fur here, pipe cleaner legs there and googly eyes over there.

She was graceful and dainty.  Rather than drink water from her bowl, she preferred to drag her paw across the water and lick it from her paw.  Other times she was not so dainty.  She loved drinking out of the toilet, head in the bowl, back end and tail up in the air.

At age 10, health issues started to creep into her life.  She was a compliant patient at the veterinarian’s office and loved by the staff.  Polly did not act her age or let her condition slow her down until her last day; then the end was swift and decisive.

Polly was set free from this earth on August 5, 2020.  For such a tiny cat, she certainly filled up a room. She captured many hearts during her life,  is deeply missed, and will be loved forever.
